Let's Make a Shadow Box!

Detailed instructions for how to make our shadow box SVG projects using either Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio (PAID versions). All of our projects work the same way, so you can use these same steps with any of our designs. Happy Crafting!

*This project can be found in our Etsy shop or in our Crafting Memories Bundle.

STEP 1: Find the RIGHT File

For Cricut Users:

For Cricut Design Space, you must use the SVG file (NOT a PNG or any other file type).

NOTE: On SOME computers, the SVG file shows up as a Microsoft Edge file or a Chrome file.

For Silhouette Users:

For Silhouette Studio (PAID versions), our projects include a layered .studio file that works easily in Silhouette Studio.

STEP 2: Follow software instructions to cut all the layers

Once your project is set up correctly, follow the on screen instructions to cut your design.

STEP 3: Assemble layers

Each of our designs include numbered layers so that it is super easy to figure out what order to stack them in. We also encourage folks to try using foam spacers in between some layers to add dimension, but it is entirely up to you! Experiment to your heart's content!

We highly recommend Bearly Art Glue for glued layers.

We like foam strips rather than dots, but please experiment!

When adding photos, make sure you use acid free tape to avoid damage to your photos over time.

STEP 4: Frame your creation

If you use spacers, we recommend using a shadow box frame to frame your work. However, if you don't use spacers, you can use any picture frame you like (in the right size of course).

STEP 5: Gift or Display!

Now that you're project is done, it's time to enjoy it. Gift it to someone you love or keep it for yourself as a cherished piece of home decor.
